The GMHS Athletic Booster Club needs your HELP!
Brief Background
In early December, Granby citizens will be asked to cast their vote on whether to go out to bond on five separate capital improvement projects, including one involving the athletic fields at the middle and high school (the “Athletic Fields Project”).
The cost for the Athletic Fields Project is capped at $10,450,000 in the bond proposal. In brief, these funds will be used to (i) address structural problems at the high school stadium field and the track which have been worsening over the last 5 years and which, if permitted to persist, will render such field and track unusable (note: the impact has already been felt by the high school track and field team, which has been unable to host a home track meet in the last three years due to the poor and unsafe condition of the track); (ii) replace the deteriorating surface on the second turf field at the high school, which is at the end of its useful life; and (iii) replace the existing grass baseball field with a new multipurpose playing field. Additional improvements, including lighting, permanent bathrooms, dugouts, and other amenities, may be included if the final design and construction costs allow the projects to remain within the approved budget. It is important to note that the bond referendum will have NO impact on taxpayers for seven (7) years. Since the town of Granby already budgets for debt service, the bond payments are already calculated in the current mill rate.
You can find more detailed information on the Athletic Fields Project, and the other proposed capital improvement projects, on the Town of Granby website and the Granby Public Schools website.
